What is Bowen therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a gentle, very relaxing hands on system of bodywork that uses fingers to make rolling moves over the skin in specified locations. The moves affect underlying fascia, muscles and organs and are designed to stimulate nerve pathways which carry messages between different nervous systems of the body. In between moves the therapist gives breaks for a few minutes to allow the body to absorb and process. The treatment can be done through light clothing while sitting, standing or in most instances, lying down.

Having studied at the College of Bowen Studies under the guidance of Julian Baker, Mari is a qualified practitioner of the Bowen Technique. She also has hands on experience studying with Tom Myers’ Anatomy Trains in Structure and Function.
Initially Mari studied Hotel Management at the Hotel Management School of Lausanne in Switzerland after which she pursued a MBA which lead to a career in international finance. She is also a British Dressage Level 6 trainee judge.
Mari’s passion is equitation and snowboarding. Her lifelong journey has been to find ways how to optimize performance when training and competing at higher level. She competed in advanced level dressage and trained with many leading trainers throughout Europe.
Due to suffering injuries to her spine and neck after many years of trialling different therapies she found the Bowen technique about a decade ago. Within a few sessions her quality of life started to improve and she was back to riding. Her Bowen experience eased symptoms of muscle pain, sciatica, numbness, weakness in limbs and sleeplessness. Mari is a life long Bowen client herself, a strong believer in atomic habits and keeping active as key to staying healthy.
Equine Bowen therapy
Bowen promotes healing and provides pain relief to our equine friends. Together with vet advice, nutrition and other techniques that promote correct biomechanical alignment for horse and rider alike we are more likely to stay sound and happy.
Mari is still to qualify as an Equine Bowen Therapist and for the time being happy to refer you to other therapists. She can also assist you in finding a canine Bowen Therapist if your loyal dog friends should need help with post op recovery or just tlc.
The benefits of Bowen Therapy
Pain Relief
Bowen opens and re-sets fascia to be free of restriction caused by injury, habit or posture thus easing pain sometimes instantly
Improves Posture, alignment and range of motion
As fascia is released from tension the body can return to it’s natural range of motion improving posture and returning the anatomical plains to “factory settings”
Relaxation
During a session the body can fall into a state of deep sleep giving it the possibility to reset, heal and restore aiding digestion and reducing stress

When given the possibility to feel good we are surprised to realise how long we endured discomfort. Bowen Therapy can help you get back in the game!
